I enjoy reading all kinds of books, but the killer thriller is not my usual jam. That said, when I find a good one (or three), I have to put my life on hold to finish the book and see what happens. And then I share them with you. So check these out today, but maybe don't read them right before bed.

I have no idea what I expecting from this one, but it pulled me in right from the beginning. Four ladies – all in their 60s – are on a cruise to celebrate their retirement. From their jobs as assassins. Somehow they catch wind that one of their coworkers is on board the ship as well, but this time they are the mark. We spend the rest of the book figuring out why and making things better (read: killing people before they could kill them). This is a great read, and I’d totally watch this if it were made into a movie. (Hint hint.) I listened to the audio version and it was like enjoying a really long movie. Print if you must, but audio for the win here.

I don’t usually go for books like this, but at some point I read a review that said this was going to be an “it” book for the fall, so I put my hold on and waited. The same day my book came it, I saw that Netflix had made this into a movie starring Brad Pitt. The library also has the movie, so get your hold on it today. I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, but the book was captivating. The story follows several shady characters as they take the bullet train (shinkansen) from Tokyo north. One pair is rescuing the only son of a mob boss. Another operator is merely retrieving a suitcase. Another guy wants revenge for his son. I enjoyed how all these stories wove together. Kind of like Love Actually, but with murder and violence. I started the print version of this, but switched over to audio when my hold came in. Both were enjoyable.

This is the sixth book in the Eddie Flynn series. Think Lincoln Lawyer, but more con man. In this one, a small town Alabama DA holds the record for criminal executions. When Eddie heads down to try and save a wrongly accused man, more dirt comes to the surface. These books are highly addictive, and I never want to stop reading them once I start. This one is no different, and I polished it off in one day. If you want to be thrilled, check this one out, but give yourself plenty of time because you won’t want to put it down until the end. If you’re a stickler (like me), you probably should go back and read the other books in the series. Not necessary, but I always feel like I’m missing something if I haven’t read the books in order. To be fair, all are worth your time.
