It seems like we were just sharing our Best of Lists for 2021, but now it’s time to bring 2022 to a close. I’ve been reading up a storm, as per usual, so I want to share some of my faves with you. This post is gonna be all about the nonfic. Then in a couple weeks I’ll share my best fiction and romance reads. Got it? Great. Then let’s jump right in to Amanda’s Top 5(+) Fave Nonfics of 2022:
A violin maker shares what he’s learned over the course of his life and how it relates to better living. Originally written in German, the English translation is beautiful and if you need a great way to kick off 2023, you can’t go wrong with this one. This one might be my favorite of the whole year.
I mentioned this one in my Humorous Looks at Life post. If your New Year’s Resolution is to be a better supervillain or perhaps try to take over the world, you definitely want to check this one out.
I love books about grammar. I mean, come on, I dressed up as an editor/copywriter for Halloween. This one is hilarious and I learned a lot. It sounds fun to set up a table and talk to random people on the street about grammar. Ok, it doesn’t. I’m an introvert and that sounds horrible to do, but was awesome to read about someone else doing.
Another read from my Humorous Looks at Life post. If you want to check out all my recs, go here. This one was written by the creator of Parks and Rec and A Good Place, both of which I love. If you wanted to learn more about philosophy and have a good laugh doing it, this is your book.
Full disclosure, I think I know Mr. Denk. He was at IU at the same time I was and you know I’ve got to recommend a fellow piano player. Make sure you stay in through the Appendix because he has some insightful comments about some great pieces.
You know I’m a sucker for a good weather book. Thuesen explored the ancient stance that bad weather was often attributed to higher powers. Very interesting. Also, I tots had to read this because the cover is a picture of the twin tornadoes that went through Dunlap, IN during the Palm Sunday tornado outbreak in April 1965. My parents lived through it and I’ve always grown up with their stories.
Not to be outdone, this fascinating book is about the deadly Paradise fire in 2018 California. I didn’t want to put it down once I’d started reading.
Last but not least, I found this gem when it came across my desk for another patron. Acaster is a comedian, but he recommends so much great music that I have since become addicted to. 2016 was a incredible year for music. Almost as good as 1984.
